AI literacy means having the knowledge, skills and judgement needed to understand how artificial intelligence works, where its limitations lie and what risks or opportunities different AI applications may create. For organisations, this includes helping staff recognise inappropriate outputs, understand the role of human oversight and make informed decisions when dealing with AI systems in everyday work.
Article 4 requires providers and deployers of AI systems to take measures that support the development of AI literacy among staff and other people dealing with the operation and use of AI systems on their behalf. Those measures should take account of technical knowledge, professional experience, education and training, as well as the context in which the systems are used. Following the 2026 amendment, the regulation does not prescribe one fixed or “sufficient” level for every organisation.
The regulation does not require employees to complete one specific mandatory training course or obtain a particular certificate. Instead, organisations covered by Article 4 must take appropriate measures to develop relevant knowledge and skills among people who work with these technologies. The approach can include courses, internal guidance, workshops, training resources and other learning initiatives appropriate to the organisation and its use of artificial intelligence.
It can. The Artificial Intelligence Act has extraterritorial provisions, so organisations established outside the European Union may fall within its scope where their systems, services or outputs interact with the EU market. Companies with European customers, users or operations should therefore determine which provisions of the AI regulation apply to their activities rather than assuming that incorporation outside the EU removes all obligations.
The requirement is not limited to developers or technical teams. Organisations should consider staff and other persons dealing with AI systems on their behalf, including people using AI tools in operational, commercial or administrative roles. The appropriate learning should reflect their existing experience, responsibilities, the different types of AI they use and the context and level of risk associated with those applications.
The programme develops practical AI skills alongside an understanding of the European regulatory framework. Participants explore responsible use, common mistakes, prompt engineering, generative AI, AI agents and cybersecurity. The objective is to build useful knowledge of AI, improve decision-making around workplace applications and help employees recognise both opportunities and potential AI risk.
Participants work with Copilot and Copilot Studio while learning broader principles that apply across AI models, generative tools and agent-based applications. The emphasis is on understanding capabilities, limitations and responsible use rather than learning one platform in isolation. The course is designed for general workplace adoption and is not specialist regulatory instruction for providers of general-purpose AI models or operators of high-risk AI systems.
No. Previous programming or specialist technical knowledge is not required. The learning starts with a general understanding of artificial intelligence and then moves into practical workplace applications. This allows professionals with different levels of experience to build relevant knowledge progressively while learning how AI technologies can be used safely and effectively in their roles.
The course contains four practical modules covering AI fundamentals, generative systems, automation with agents and cybersecurity. Lessons last between 5 and 15 minutes and combine explanation with real-world examples. The structure allows participants to move from basic understanding to applied skills while using training resources designed around common professional situations.
Yes. A useful approach to workforce education should reflect how people actually interact with technology. The programme therefore connects core concepts with different business contexts, helping teams consider relevant AI applications, risk, responsible use and basic AI governance according to their responsibilities and the systems they work with.
Yes. The programme is delivered digitally through the Founderz learning platform and has no fixed timetable. Participants can access lessons when convenient and progress at their own pace, making the format suitable for teams that need structured professional learning without removing employees from their day-to-day responsibilities for extended periods.
The programme contains 6 hours of content. Its short lesson format allows participants to complete the material progressively alongside normal professional responsibilities rather than dedicating full working days to study.
Participants receive 12 months of access to the programme content and updates. During that period, they can return to lessons and supporting materials to refresh their knowledge as tools, workplace practices and the wider regulatory environment continue to evolve.
Lessons last between 5 and 15 minutes and there is no fixed timetable. Employees can therefore integrate learning into their normal working week, progressing in short sessions according to their availability rather than interrupting operational activity for long classroom sessions.
Participants who complete the programme receive a joint certification from Founderz and Microsoft that can be shared on LinkedIn. It provides evidence of completion of the Founderz programme, but it should not be presented as an official EU AI Act certificate or as a guarantee of regulatory compliance.
Founderz provides progress tracking and certification on completion, giving organisations records of the education and training undertaken by their teams. Companies can combine these records with their own internal documentation of guidance, policies and other AI literacy measures to demonstrate the steps taken to develop relevant staff capabilities. The European Commission confirms that Article 4 does not require one prescribed certificate.
No. Compliance with the Artificial Intelligence Act depends on the organisation, its role as provider or deployer, the systems involved and the applicable provisions of the legislation. Article 4 concerns measures supporting the development of staff capabilities, while separate obligations may apply to areas such as transparency, human oversight or high-risk AI systems. Completing a course can support an organisation's AI governance and compliance programme, but cannot by itself guarantee legal compliance.
Yes. For companies operating in Spain, the programme may be partially or fully funded through available FUNDAE training credits. The amount recoverable depends on factors including the organisation's available credit, the number of training hours and the profile of the participants.
Yes. External management of the FUNDAE funding process is available through a specialised partner, helping eligible companies manage the administrative process associated with using their available training credits.
