The obstacles you’ll have to face before achieving success
Let me tell you something that runs counter to what a lot of people assume: reaching success means fighting a whole set of socially ingrained beliefs that, in plenty of situations, will hold you back. Acting differently is simply the result of thinking differently. If you want to do what no one has ever done before and actually benefit from it, the secret is to think differently.
That said, thinking differently doesn’t mean believing that biases won’t hold you back. Plenty of times, I thought I was free of preconceptions until I actually had to face a real situation, and there they were: those same biases whispering in my ear that I couldn’t do it, that if no one had tried it before, it was because it was a guaranteed path to failure.
So I discovered that being unbiased is much more than just saying you’re free of prejudice. It’s work that can take a lifetime, but it’s worth starting down that road. Ultimately, the biggest obstacle you’ll have to face before reaching success is yourself: no competitor and no one else will ever be bigger or stronger than your own way of thinking and being, and that’s what will limit you for the rest of your life if you let it.

Without question, ideas are essential for making your way in the business world. So one way to generate them is by keeping the following points in mind:
- Always stay open to new concepts: Limiting yourself to the type of business you already have is an obstacle, so always considering the possibility of creating new ventures is a starting point for real change.
- Combine thoughts and emotions: This is an excellent way to create new ways of doing business. Listening to your own ideas and how you feel about them can genuinely be the key to success.
- There’s always a solution to a problem: Remember that there will always be a solution to a problem, and if one doesn’t exist, you have to invent it.
