Fashion prompt generator

Describe the garment or look and choose style, fabric, silhouette, casting, light and use the way a design and art direction team would. The prompt comes out in the exact format your tool expects. Only step 1 is required.

How to use the fashion prompt generator in five steps

Only the first step is required: anything you skip stays on “Auto” and the generator infers it from your description.

  1. The essentials. Describe the piece in “What garment or look do you want to create?”, pick the “Garment type” (from full look to uniform or workwear) and your tool, such as ChatGPT, Midjourney or Adobe Firefly.
  2. Style and fabric. Choose the “Style direction”, the “Fabric and finish” and the “Palette”. Under “Advanced settings” you can fix the “Silhouette and construction”.
  3. Image, model and light. Decide the “Image type” (editorial, lookbook, street style, ecommerce sheet), the “Casting and pose” and the “Light and camera”. Under “Advanced settings” add a pose, action or place.
  4. Use and delivery. Set the “Goal” and the “Delivery”. Under “Advanced settings” you fix the aspect ratio, the reference image you will attach, what to avoid and any note about the real product.
  5. Generate and copy your prompt. Click “Generate prompt”, enter your email to see the whole prompt and copy it.

Whatever you leave on “Auto” is not forced into the written prompt, so only fill in what you’re sure about. The more fields you pin down, the easier it is to tailor the image to your brand.

Example: an editorial prompt for a wool coat

With the generator’s “Editorial” example, this is the full prompt:

Create a studio fashion editorial photograph: long camel wool coat with wide lapels.

Coat: volume over other layers, with believable closures, pockets and lining and the weight of the fabric visible in the drape. Style: contemporary old money, quality basics, no logos and an elegance that does not need to draw attention. Fabric: cold wool and crepe with a dry drape, a fine matte texture and impeccable pressing. Studio editorial: seamless paper backdrop, an intentional composition and a fashion magazine attitude. Pose: an editorial sculptural pose, sharp angles of arms and shoulders, like a high fashion figure. Light: direct editorial flash, a hard shadow right behind the subject and saturated colors. Goal: a campaign image, a visual story with impact and free space for the brand logo. Format: 2:3 aspect ratio, for an editorial campaign.

Avoid: deformed hands or fingers, impossible seams, buttons or closures, invented text or logos and watermarks.

The prompt covers the garment with its cut and fabric, the style, the pose, the light, the goal, the 2:3 format and a list of things to avoid. If you pick Midjourney or Stable Diffusion, the same content comes out as keywords with their parameters.

The result: the image tool gets a closed scene with the garment, light and format defined, so it stops inventing the details you didn’t give it.

A prompt formula for AI clothing images: style, silhouette, oversized or minimalist fits

Most effective prompts for AI clothing images follow the same order, and the form asks for it field by field: piece, style, fabric texture, silhouette, color palette, casting, light, camera and format. A descriptive prompt gives the AI far more to work with: a model wearing an oversized linen shirt in soft window light is not “a nice shirt photo”, and the AI generates very different pictures.

Tips: refine with negative prompts and pick the best AI tool for your workflow

6 quick tips

  • Describe the piece like a pattern maker would: length, closure, collar, pockets and how the cloth falls. The AI fills anything you leave vague with clichés.
  • Pick your tool in the first step: with Midjourney or Stable Diffusion the prompt comes out as keywords with parameters, and with ChatGPT, Gemini or Flux as natural text.
  • Use “Avoid” under “Advanced settings” to list what must not appear, such as third-party logos, impossible seams or distracting props. Midjourney and Stable Diffusion get it as a negative prompt.
  • For ecommerce product photos, choose the goal “Ecommerce”, the delivery “Front and back” and attach a “Real garment” reference, so you can compare the AI image with the actual product before you publish it.
  • Use “No people” or “Invisible mannequin” when you want to study color and fabric without the pose getting in the way, and switch to a full-body shot when you need to showcase the fit.
  • Don’t name specific brands or designers as a style reference. Describe the aesthetic (editorial fashion, photography style, palette) and respect the rights of any images you attach.

Use cases: fashion images, editorial fashion and garment-only shots

  • Social media looks Goal “Social media”, style “Streetwear”, image “Street style” and one hero image.
  • Capsule collection Goal “Collection concept”, “Scandinavian minimalism”, “Studio editorial” and a mini capsule of 5 looks.
  • Sustainable fashion Goal “Moodboard”, fabric “Visible recycled material”, “Macro detail” and a materials moodboard.
  • Ecommerce sheets Goal “Ecommerce”, image “Ecommerce sheet”, casting “Invisible mannequin” and front and back delivery.
  • A high-fashion campaign Goal “Campaign editorial”, “Outdoor campaign” and 3 color variations. You don’t need a stunning shot on the first try; iterate on one field at a time.

What makes a good fashion prompt for the fashion industry

A good fashion prompt sets the role, the task (concept, piece, styling or campaign), the context of use, the reference material, the constraints and the delivery format. In the fashion industry, constraints matter more than in most topics: the clothes have to be wearable, seams and fall have to make sense, and anatomy can’t fail on hands and proportions.

That’s why the generator adds a default list of things to avoid (deformed hands, impossible seams, invented text) and lets you set the delivery (one hero image, variations, front and back) so the AI knows when it’s done. You end up with tailored prompts for your brand instead of a generic AI-powered template.

Why I built these generators

Paul Delaney

I’m Paul Delaney, and I lead search and AI visibility at Founderz. I’ve been designing AI prompts since the GPT-2 era and writing them every day since 2021, helping friends, colleagues and clients across many sectors, industries and roles get more out of their work with AI tools.

I built these generators to help people. AI is a wonderful tool: it doesn’t replace people, it helps them deliver more and better work. So this generator is designed to bring real value to everyone who uses it, whatever their prompting level. I built it with AI helping me write the code, which is the best proof of what AI lets you do.

Structured prompting, the technique behind this generator, is only one of many. Founderz’s Certificate Program in Artificial Intelligence and Innovation teaches it alongside many others, so graduates come out significantly upskilled and able to build tools like this for their own field.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes, it’s free. Before it asks for anything, it shows you a preview with the first sections of the prompt. To see the whole prompt and copy it, enter your email and accept the Privacy Policy; receiving communications from Founderz is optional.

It only asks once per visit: any prompts you generate after that are shown in full.

Does it generate the image itself?

No. It writes the text in your browser. The image comes from the tool you paste it into, such as ChatGPT, Midjourney, Adobe Firefly or Gemini.

Can I use it as an AI fashion model generator?

It describes the model for you: under “Casting and pose” you choose adults with natural diversity, one or two people, walking movement or a sculptural editorial pose, and the image tool does the rest. If you publish the results, say they are AI-generated.

Can I use it to design clothes for production?

It helps you explore ideas, silhouettes, colors and fabrics, and prepare concept sheets. It doesn’t replace pattern making or a tech pack: check measurements, seams and materials with your production team.

What language does the prompt come out in?

The prompt comes out in English, and image tools understand it well. With Midjourney, if the result doesn’t fit, keep the keywords short and concrete and leave the parameters unchanged.
