Free AI image prompt generator: write a detailed AI prompt for any AI image generator

This free AI image prompt generator turns your idea into a detailed AI prompt for creating images using ChatGPT, Copilot, Midjourney or Firefly. Built for creative and marketing teams, it runs in your browser without calling any AI model and asks for your email before showing the prompt. It’s intuitive, but below you’ll find instructions, a real example and tips to get better images. Founderz made it; our Certificate Program in Artificial Intelligence and Innovation teaches image generation.

How to use our AI image prompt generator

  1. Pick the type of piece in “What do you want to create?”: general image, portrait, product, ad, brand system, social, illustration, infographic or an edit of an existing image.
  2. Describe the subject, the only required field, in descriptive text with details you can see: material, color, age, pose. Add the action and setting if they matter.
  3. Choose the image type (photography, 3D renders, illustration, mockups), the aesthetic, from photorealism to brand illustration, the lighting, the destination, the ratio and the text-to-image tool you’ll paste it into, from Adobe Firefly and Ideogram to Microsoft Copilot or Photoshop. The prompt records the tool used to generate images so the image model can tailor its answer.
  4. Open “Advanced settings” to fix the angle, composition, lens, depth of field, background and color palette. Under “Avoid”, tick what you do not want to see: watermarks, unreadable text or deformed hands.
  5. Choose the level of detail, the final output language and the AI work mode. Click “Create my prompt”, enter your email, accept the privacy policy and copy the detailed prompt. You get it in seconds, because nothing is sent to an AI model.

You don’t need technical vocabulary: write the scene in plain words and the form puts it in order. Select a specific tool rather than “Other”, because the prompt adapts its format to it, and it works with the major AI models for image creation.

Example: generating a prompt for a new image

For a product listing we chose “product”, the subject “handmade sand-colored ceramic mug with the handle on the right”, product photography with soft natural light, a 4:5 ratio and Midjourney. The generator returns a structured brief that AI models can follow without guessing; this is a real excerpt:

ACT AS: a specialist for Universal AI Image Prompt Generator.

OBJECTIVE AND CONTEXT PROVIDED:
Subject, product, or main idea *: handmade sand-colored ceramic mug with the handle on the right
Setting / scene (optional): light wooden countertop next to a window, in the morning
Image type: Product photography
Aesthetic: Premium and minimalist
Lighting: Soft natural light
Destination / channel: E-commerce / marketplace
Aspect ratio: 4:5
Tool: Midjourney
Composition: Rule of thirds

In an assistant like Copilot you can paste the brief as it is and generate the image in the same conversation; for tools like Midjourney that use parameters, condense it into one sentence of keywords and end with –ar 4:5 –no text, watermarks.

Tips for better AI-generated images

  • Set the format before you generate: in Midjourney, if you leave it out, the image comes out square, according to its documentation.
  • To optimize the result when you build image variations, change one variable per iteration (lighting first, then camera angle, then palette) and regenerate, so you know what improved the image.
  • Clean up the prompt before you paste it: it includes every field in the form, even the portrait, ad and edit ones, so delete the lines that do not fit.
  • If the image needs readable words or typography, pick Ideogram, which the tool list marks for text in images.
  • Check hands, text and product details by eye, and when you create AI art, avoid asking for the style of living artists, other brands’ logos or real faces without consent.

Use cases: generate prompts for every kind of image generation

The form has its own fields for the jobs creative teams most often hand to AI, so you can create visuals with AI without remembering every detail:

  • Product and e-commerce: clean product shots, packaging mockups, a transparent background for a PNG cutout, and variations that keep the product identical.
  • Ads and campaigns: the goal, the audience, the CTA and a free area for copy, with formats for Meta, LinkedIn or display.
  • Portraits: the portrait direction and expression, from a corporate profile picture to a more creative look.
  • Brand and social: a consistent style and palette across pieces, so you can create a full series.
  • Illustration and concept work: different art styles such as epic fantasy, retro futuristic, isometric or cinematic.
  • Editing: change the background, expand the canvas or remove an object from an image you already have.

What makes a good AI prompt for an AI image generator

A good text prompt describes seven visual elements: subject, style, composition, lighting, color, format and constraints. If you only have time for three, prioritize subject, lighting and format, because they change a product shot or a portrait the most. The more specific each one is, the easier it is to get high-quality images and repeat the same visual style across a series. Spelling out each element is the core of prompt engineering and of a repeatable creative process: writing a reusable prompt that another person, or the AI itself, can follow.

Why I built these generators

I built these generators because I kept seeing people get generic answers from AI when their prompts were vague. I’m Paul Delaney, I’ve been writing AI prompts since the GPT-2 era, and I work at Founderz, a school that teaches people to use AI at work. So I put the structure I use myself into every generator: role, task, context, material, constraints and format. You bring the idea for your image, and the generator puts it in order so the tool doesn’t have to guess.

Frequently asked questions

Is this free AI image prompt generator really free?

Yes. It is completely free to use and has no usage limit. To view and copy the prompt, you enter an email and accept the privacy policy. Founderz uses the email to deliver the prompt and only sends you communications if you tick that optional box.

Which AI models does it support, from GPT Image to Flux?

The Tool field covers the main image generators and AI tools, including GPT Image, Gemini, Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, Stable Diffusion, Flux, Ideogram, Leonardo AI, Recraft, Krea, Canva, Microsoft Copilot, Freepik, Magnific and Photoshop, plus an “Other” option.

Is it a free image to prompt generator?

No. This is not an image to prompt tool: it doesn’t convert image files or turn any photo into text, so it won’t work as an AI image to prompt generator or an image-to-text service. It starts from your description. To change an image you already have, choose “Edit or expand an existing image”, describe the change in the subject field and paste the prompt with the image into your editing tool, such as Copilot or Photoshop.

What language does the prompt come out in?

In the one you pick under “Final output language”. The default is English (US), and you can switch to UK English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and other languages, or ask for a bilingual Spanish and English version.

If you want to move from one-off prompts to a creative workflow built on ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Midjourney, the Founderz Certificate Program in Artificial Intelligence and Innovation has a module dedicated to generating images and video with AI. It is fully online and developed in collaboration with Microsoft.
