AI prompt generator for strategy
Tell us about the strategic decision and the evidence you have and get a professional prompt for decision memos, scenarios, priorities, competitive analysis and strategic plans. Only step 1 is required: everything else stays on Auto.
How to use the AI prompt generator for strategy: from input to output
Only the first step is required: anything you skip stays on Auto and the AI infers it from your context.
- The essentials. In “Describe the decision or the strategy work” write the strategic question, the deadline, the evidence you have with its date and who decides. In “What do you need to prepare?” pick one of the 12 deliverables or leave it on Auto, and switch on “Have the AI ask me questions before it starts” if your context is short.
- Scope and audience. Say who it is for (executive committee, board, the strategy team itself, functional leads or the whole organization) and the time horizon, from this quarter to five years or more. Under “Advanced settings” you pick the strategic scope and a framework such as Playing to Win, Porter’s five forces or “What would have to be true”.
- Format and tone. Choose a document, slides, tables, one page or a spreadsheet, and the level of detail. Tone (executive, analytical and traceable or clear for teams) is under “Advanced settings”.
- Material and quality. Say what you will attach: internal data, public sources, interviews or an existing report. Under “Advanced settings” you add extra checks such as “Source and date on every data point”, “Pre-mortem” or “Stop criteria”, the response language and any limit the AI must respect.
- Generate and copy your prompt. Click “Generate prompt”, enter your email to see the whole prompt and copy it.
“What do you need to prepare?” offers 12 business strategy deliverables: strategic decision memo, scenario planning, initiative prioritization, market research, strategic plan, strategy workshop or offsite, competitive analysis, strategic risks, strategic narrative, execution review, business model design and partnership assessment. Each one fits a step of the strategic planning process and adds its own steps, columns and three follow-up requests, so you don’t have to create custom prompts from scratch.
Example: a decision memo with ChatGPT
With the generator’s “Strategic decision” example, the prompt starts like this. It’s an excerpt: the button copies the full prompt.
ROLE Act as a senior corporate strategist with experience in strategy consulting and in corporate planning teams. You master options analysis, scenario planning, initiative portfolio prioritization and competitive analysis. You distinguish fact, source, hypothesis and inference, and you never fill gaps with invented market sizes, shares, competitor data or forecasts. You write decision memos with the SCQA structure (situation, complication, question, answer) and compare options against explicit criteria. GOAL Write a strategic decision memo that compares options with evidence and ends in a conditional recommendation and a specific decision for leadership. CONTEXT Context provided by the user (treat it as your main source): """ We need to decide whether to enter the Netherlands in 2027 or strengthen our position in the UK. We have sales by region for the last three years and two public industry reports from 2025. Our main competitor has been in the Netherlands for two years. Leadership wants a recommendation in four weeks. """ ... OUTPUT FORMAT Deliver a memo of two pages at most with the blocks Question and decision requested, Situation, Options (table with columns Option, Attractiveness, Ability to win, Risk, Investment, Reversibility), Conditional recommendation, What would have to be true, Next steps. ...
The full prompt adds the international expansion scope, the constraints against invented market sizes and competitor data, the memo steps with weighted criteria, the “what would have to be true” test for each option, a sample row of the options table and the final checks.
The result: the AI doesn’t invent the size of the Dutch market: it marks it [to be confirmed], compares the options against explicit criteria and ends with a conditional recommendation plus the evidence that would change it.
Tips to refine the output and get the best results
7 quick tips
- Write the decision as a question with a date (“do we enter Canada in 2027?”) rather than a topic (“international growth”). The memo comes out far more specific and actionable.
- Give each piece of evidence its source and date, and attach the reports in your AI tool. The instructions separate fact, hypothesis and recommendation, but they can only cite what you provide.
- For market research or a competitive analysis, switch on “Source and date on every data point” under “Extra checks” and use an assistant with search, because LLMs can produce numbers that sound right and aren’t. Treat any AI-generated figure as a hypothesis until someone checks the source.
- Use a framework only when it helps: “SWOT as support” sorts ideas and crosses them into options, while the decision comes from comparing options and their trade-offs.
- State your strategic goals and the key metrics in the brief (at least one success metric per option), so the output can align each option with them and with resource allocation.
- Keep confidential or privileged information out of tools your company hasn’t approved, and switch on “Anonymize data” under “Extra checks” when the topic is sensitive.
- Change one option at a time between versions to see which setting improves the result, then save that setup for your team: it will save time on the next committee and streamline your workflow.
Use case ideas: scenario planning, priorities and market research
Pick the one closest to your next decision:
- Decide A decision memo or an options matrix for the management committee.
- Anticipate A scenario analysis or a strategic risk matrix when the context shifts.
- Prioritize An initiative portfolio prioritization with weighted criteria, real capacity and the list of what will not be done.
- Understand the market A market study or a competitive analysis with verifiable, dated sources.
- Plan The strategic plan, a strategy workshop agenda and the quarterly execution review.
- Grow Business model design with its Canvas or a partnership assessment with its minimum terms.
What makes a good strategy prompt: prompt engineering best practices
A good strategy prompt gives the AI a role (a senior strategy lead), a specific decision, the company context, the material it can use with its date, the constraints and the format of the deliverable. In strategy the key constraint is not inventing anything: market sizes, competitor data or forecasts without a source turn a sound analysis into a risky document.
This generator helps by forcing the split between fact, hypothesis and recommendation and by asking what evidence would change the conclusion, which is what a committee needs in order to decide. AI can help you get there faster; the judgment stays with you.

Why I built these generators
Frequently asked questions
Is it a free AI prompt generator?
Yes, it’s free. Before it asks for anything, it shows you a preview with the first sections of the prompt. To see the whole prompt and copy it, enter your email and accept the Privacy Policy; receiving communications from Founderz is optional.
It only asks once per visit: any prompts you generate after that are shown in full.
Can AI do strategic planning for me?
It can sort the evidence, lay out options and draft the memo or plan, but not make the call. The instructions ask for a conditional recommendation and leave the decision to the committee or leadership team, who know the full context and answer for it.
Can I use it for a competitive analysis?
Yes. “Competitive analysis” is one of the 12 deliverables in “What do you need to prepare?”. Combine it with “Public sources” as the material and the “Source and date on every data point” check so every claim about a competitor carries a source and a date.
What happens to the confidential information I type?
The tool doesn’t use a language model: it combines your answers with Founderz templates in your browser. It only sends your email to Founderz when you ask to see the result, and usage statistics record the options you chose, never your description or the final text. Paste sensitive material later, and only into the tool your company has approved.
Which AI tool can I use it in?
Any text assistant: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft 365 Copilot or the one your company has approved. The prompt is portable, so you don’t pick a tool in the generator; you can still customize the level of detail and the response language.
For market and competitor data, an assistant with search that cites sources, such as Perplexity, works best.
