AI agent prompt generator Free AI prompt writer for an AI agent system prompt in ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot Studio
This AI agent prompt generator turns your agent idea into a prompt to design it, write its system instructions, set its limits and test it before you deploy it in Copilot Studio, n8n or Make. It’s built for business, operations and support teams who want to automate a workflow without losing control, and it comes from Founderz, which runs the Certificate Program in Artificial Intelligence and Innovation.

AI agent prompt generator
Tell us what your agent should do and get a professional prompt to design it, write its instructions, set its limits and test it before it goes live. Only step 1 is required: everything else stays on Auto.
How to use the AI agent prompt generator, step by step
To build your prompt, follow these steps. Only the first one is required: anything you skip stays on Auto.
- Start with the essentials. Pick an example (from scratch, system prompt, limits, map a process, test plan or fix an agent) or describe what the agent will do, for whom and what it must never do. Then choose what you need to prepare, or leave it on Auto so it is worked out from your text.
- Describe the agent and its setting. The platform (Copilot Studio, Microsoft 365 Copilot agent, ChatGPT GPT, n8n, Make, Claude Project or a custom agent via API) and the process or area. In the advanced settings you set who it works for and the starting point, from an unvalidated idea to an agent in production.
- Set autonomy and control. The autonomy level (suggests only, acts after a person approves, acts and is reviewed afterwards or autonomous within strict limits) and the systems and data it accesses. In the advanced settings you choose when the case goes to a person, memory and how it is measured.
- Choose format and material. Document, tables, blocks ready to paste, deployment checklist, flow diagram or one page, plus the material you will attach. The advanced settings add extra controls such as prompt injection defence or an emergency stop, the level of detail and the answer language.
- Generate and copy your prompt. Click “Generate prompt”, enter your email to see the whole prompt and copy it.
Eleven jobs for your agent. The “What do you need to prepare?” selector offers design the whole agent, write the system prompt, limits and escalation, test plan, fix a failing agent, map the process, tools and permissions, decision flow, error handling, metrics and monitoring, and document the agent.
Each job comes with its own output format, with specific tables and columns, and three follow-up requests to paste into the same conversation.
Example of an AI prompt for a customer support agent
With the generator’s “From scratch” example, the prompt starts like this. It’s an excerpt: the button copies the full prompt.
ROLE Act as a specialist in designing and deploying AI agents in companies. You know how to write system prompts, tool use by the model (function calling), the ReAct pattern (reason, act and observe), retrieval over documents (RAG), human in the loop supervision, evaluations with test cases and the risk of prompt injection. You design with the principle of least privilege and you never fill gaps with invented access, platform features or data. You design agents with a one-page specification: goal, scope, inputs, tools, limits, escalation and metrics. GOAL Design the specification of an AI agent that solves the task in the context, with a closed scope, minimal tools and permissions, human checkpoints and criteria to tell whether it works. CONTEXT Context provided by the user (treat it as your main source): [START OF BRIEF] I want an agent that answers frequently asked customer questions about orders using our authorized knowledge base. Today a support person handles this and spends about ten minutes per case. I need the objective, scope, flow, limits and the point at which the case goes to a person. [END OF BRIEF] ... OUTPUT FORMAT Deliver a specification with these blocks: 1) Goal and expected result; 2) In scope and out of scope, 5 to 8 points each; 3) Triggers and inputs; 4) a tools table with the columns Tool, Purpose, Read or write, Needs confirmation; 5) main flow in 5 to 10 numbered steps; 6) Limits and escalation; 7) Success metrics with a baseline [to be confirmed]; 8) Main risks with their mitigation. ...
The full prompt adds the platform (Copilot Studio) and how it organises topics, actions and connectors, human approval before acting, escalation when the agent is unsure, constraints against invented access and features, and a final check before answering.
The result: instead of promising the agent will handle everything, the AI delivers a specification with a closed scope, least-privilege tools and the exact point where a person takes over the case.
Tips to refine and optimize instructions for AI agents on any platform
5 quick tips
- Start with a process that is already documented. Automating steps nobody has written down copies all of their gaps.
- Cover the role, tone, what to decline, how to handle ambiguous input and when to hand off to a person, as Microsoft recommends in its guide to authoring Copilot Studio instructions.
- Grant the least access possible. Start with “Suggests only” under “Autonomy level” and raise autonomy once tests justify it.
- Craft edge cases before launch: an out-of-scope question, an angry customer, a missing field. The “Test plan” job turns them into a table with pass criteria, including prompt injection attempts.
- Measure one thing from day one, such as time saved per case, so you can decide whether the productivity gain pays off, and refine one line of the instructions at a time.
Prompt engineering: what makes an effective AI agent instruction
Good prompt generation for an agent covers six things: role, task, process context, the material it can consult, constraints and format. Constraints matter more than in a chat, because an agent acts: state what it can do alone, what it should only propose and what it must never do, plus who gets the case when it’s stuck. Every platform and builder has its own interface, but the same pattern works in all of them, gives you well-structured custom prompts and keeps the LLMs from guessing.

Why I built these generators
Frequently asked questions
Is the AI agent prompt generator free?
Yes, it’s free. Before it asks for anything, it shows you a preview with the first sections of the prompt. To see the whole prompt and copy it, enter your email and accept the Privacy Policy; receiving communications from Founderz is optional.
It only asks once per visit: any prompts you generate after that are shown in full.
Does this prompt writer build the agent for me?
No. It writes the request you give an assistant such as Copilot or Gemini so it helps you design, specify or review the agent. You then set it up yourself in Copilot Studio, n8n, Make or another tool.
What is an AI agent system prompt?
It’s the fixed instruction followed in every conversation: who the assistant is, what it does, its tone and the limits it respects. The “Write the system prompt” job prepares a request to draft one, with a case handled well and a case the agent must refuse or escalate.
Can it help fix an agent I already have?
Yes. Pick the “Fix an agent” example or the “Fix a failing agent” job and describe what goes wrong, since when and with which examples. If you attach run logs or the current instructions, the AI works on the real failure instead of an imaginary agent.
Which language is the result in?
By default, the language you write the context in. In the advanced settings of step 4, “Answer language” lets you choose US, UK, Canadian or Australian English, Spanish from Spain or Latin America, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch or a bilingual version.
Certificate Program in Artificial Intelligence and Innovation
To go from a prompt to an agent running in your company, the Certificate Program in Artificial Intelligence and Innovation from Founderz teaches you to design, connect and supervise them, in a fully online program developed in collaboration with Microsoft.
